What We Believe

Statement of Purpose

"I hear and I forget
I see and I remember
I do and I understand.
"
-Confucius

"For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them."
-Aristotle

“If we continue to look at education as if it’s about coming to school to get the information and not about experiential learning, empowering student voice and embracing failure, we’re missing the mark.”
— Diana Laufenberg

"Students have superpowers and our job is to help them find out what those superpowers are and then give them opportunities to use those to make themselves better... and the community beyond."
-Christie Knott

For most of history, we as the human race have learned through experience. The purpose of this project is to celebrate that style of learning and understand the impact of experiential learning on our performance and self esteem. Additionally, it is to realize that this opportunity should be available to all students no matter who they are or where they come from.

Values

  • Everyone deserves access to a meaningful education.
  • Everyone deserves the right to positive self esteem.
  • Everyone deserves to find their passion through their education.
  • Everyone deserves mentors and advisers who support their growth.
  • Everyone deserves an environment that nurtures their learning style and sense of self, and creates a platform for problem solving throughout their lives.

Initial Thoughts

  • We learn better when we learn by doing.
  • Shop classes in schools should not be dying.
  • Kids should be taught how to actually do something instead of learning how to take a test.
  • Teachers should be a guide for students instead of spouting out information.
  • Schools that are facing declining performance and lack of interest could benefit from experiential learning.
